Possible Digital 70cm's Repeater
Dear Dave & Members,
I can now confirm that I have a sponsor for the possible digital
repeater project.
The existing sponsor of our repeaters GB3AA,GB3AK,GB3AZ,
ASHcom Research, is willing to provide financial support for the
project.
The deal, as outlined by a W&S spokesperson, is as follows:-
We find 10 (Ten) club members that are willing to purchase a D-Star
compatible radio, they will supply an Icom RP4000V 70cms repeater at
cost, less the VAT.
This equates to £1000:00p
The order for the rigs, which can be any of the following types:
IC-E2820 mobile
IC-E91 Hand held
IC-U82 70cms Hand held
all MUST be fitted with the D-Star option board AT THE TIME OF
ORDERING.
We will then receive the RP4000V repeater for £1000:00p
(It should be noted that the sponsor would retain legal ownership of
the repeater itself.)
ASHcom Research will permit us to use the repeater for Amateur Radio
and emergency communications for the lifetime of the equipment,
subject to licensing conditions and site availability.
Seems that this is a pretty good deal, as far as I can see and is the
same as the existing repeater arrangements.
So, if you can find 8 other people, beside ourselves who are willing
to "Go Digital" then we could be in business with a digital repeater.
Perhaps you might inform club members and see how many might be
interested in such a project.?
With the repeater sited alongside the existing ones, coverage should
be on a par with the existing 70cms repeater GB3AZ, which is excellent
around the northern end of the Estuary, particularly in the Newport
and Chepstow areas, as well as much of South Glos.
Please be aware that licensing can take a while, it would be nice to
get firm commitments asap. and the license NoV can be applied for.
Speak to you soon.
regards,
Tony G4CJZ (Repeater keeper, GB3AA,GB3AK and GB3AZ
PS any suggestions as to a call sign?
(It will be GB7...something something) My choice would be DR "
Digital Repeater"
(Delta Romeo)
New Members We would like to welcome Kevin Snelling (GW7BSG) & Haydn Lyall as new members of the society, most of you will know of Kevin as he is the controller of the Gwent Raynet Group & Haydn is taking the Foundation Course and is a member of SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association). GB3AK 23cm Repeater Live! The latest repeater to go live in the area is the GB3AK operating on 23cm which is located at Alveston. The repeater is the work of Tony (G4CJZ) and is now fully operational, please see the repeater page on this site for all other info concerning the repeater. Members List I have been asked by a few members if we could have a members list with callsigns/photos. This will help members put names to faces, so to speak. If anyone would like to be included on the list, please email me your Name, Callsign, and rough location. You can include a photo if you like.
Please remember that this list will be visible to all viewers of the site, not just club members. It will, however, be giving out less information than you would find in a typical callbook or on qrz.com |
